This bridge is called The Crossing. It commemorates the crossing of allied soldiers of the river Waal in small rubber boats near Nijmegen in 1945. 49 men died. The bridge is illuminated by 49 streetlamps. Each night these lights are lit one after the other at a pedstrians speed. Each night a volonteer marches from light to light, symbolising the heroic deed which led, in the end, to the liberation of The Netherlands.
